Our History

The Caring & Sharing Food Pantry was created in 1980 in the basement of the rectory of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Thanks to the dedication and compassion of Deacon Francis Koenn and many caring county residents, we have met the needs of countless families in Paulding County. In 2003, we reorganized with the help of United Way, the Paulding Ministerial Association, and the Kiwanis Club, relocating to our current location with the support of local Boy Scouts, volunteers, and the Paulding County Hospital.

Today, we operate as a not-for-profit organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, committed to providing food and groceries to our neighbors, thanks to the community’s generosity and support from the West Ohio Food Bank.

Understanding Food Insecurity

Food insecurity is a pressing issue that affects millions of people across the country, and Paulding County is no exception. According to the United States Department of Agriculture, food insecurity is defined as a lack of consistent access to enough food for every person in a household to live an active, healthy life. This issue can be temporary for some families, while for others, it can be a prolonged struggle.

In Paulding County, over 12% of residents face food insecurity, meaning they do not always have access to the nutritious food necessary for a healthy life. The impact of food insecurity extends beyond hunger, affecting physical health, mental well-being, and overall quality of life. It can lead to a range of challenges, from developmental issues in children to increased stress and anxiety in adults.

At Caring & Sharing Food Pantry, we are dedicated to fighting food insecurity in our community. Our mission is to ensure that every family in Paulding County has access to the food and groceries they need, regardless of their circumstances. Through the support of our donors and volunteers, we provide vital resources and support to those in need, working tirelessly to alleviate the burden of food insecurity for our neighbors.

Our efforts are bolstered by partnerships with organizations like the West Ohio Food Bank, which help us distribute food efficiently and effectively. By raising awareness and mobilizing resources, we strive to make a lasting impact in the fight against food insecurity, helping families in Paulding County lead healthier, more secure lives.

Join us in our mission to combat food insecurity and make a difference in our community. Together, we can ensure that no one in Paulding County has to go without the food they need to thrive.
